diy toothpaste and deodorant

So you all are going to think I've gone off the deep end, but after trying several DIY household products and toiletries I decided to take it one step further. This weekend we ran out of toothpaste and deodorant, so I went on google to see how difficult it would be to DIY. To my surprise the recipes were simple and included ingredients I already have! And even further to my surprise, people seem to really like their DIY toothpaste and deodorant.

I based my recipe on this website (http://mizar5.com/homemade.html) and used the following ingredients:

3 TBS baking soda
1 TBS sea salt
Poured some hydrogen peroxide in until it made a paste and added a few drops of peppermint oil.

I used this blog post (http://productjunkiesrehab.wordpress.com/2011/03/10/diy-deodorant-rave-reviews-from-a-deodorant-convert/) for my deodorant recipe:

1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup corn starch
4 TBS coconut oil
10 drops of tea trea oil
Simply mix all the ingredients together.

So far, I like both! The toothpaste tastes pretty yucky, but my mouth feels clean. I may try adding some stevia powder to make it sweeter. The deodorant smells fresh and it seems to be doing the trick (note: the Engineer and I are sweaty, stinky people and very particular about our deodorant...so I will keep you posted on this one).

Mandatory cute baby pic...

play at home mama

I found this new blog that I love Playathomemom3.blogspot.com I mostly catch her Facebook posts and she starts some her posts with "yes you can...(walk to school barefoot...get out of the car in the rain to see your first rainbow, etc)" And she is full of fun, interactive play ideas for her kids. I love the concept of thinking of myself as a "play" at home mom. It makes the job sound really cool and it inspires me to be more creative!

Yes, you can play in the dirt.

Yes, you can eat some dirt, too!
